Bills Passed in 2021

With the funds in the state PAC (IIAPAC), Evan Manning, Director of Government Relations, was able to pass four bills to benefit independent insurance agents:

  • SB 61 (P.A. 102-0069) which provides parity for total loss of vehicle claims.
  • SB 1753 (P.A. 102-0224) which makes several changes to the Surplus Lines Article including eliminating diligent effort for commercial wholesale transactions.
  • SB 2112 (P.A. 102-0542) which provides that a contract for life insurance that has been in effect for at least one year may not be cancelled or non-renewed for nonpayment of premium unless the insurer has mailed a notification of the impending lapse in coverage to the policyholder and a secondary addressee.
  • HB 1957 (P.A. 102-0135) which is the Department of Insurance’s omnibus bill but contains provisions of legislation the IIA of IL sought including providing insurance pre-licensing classes may be completed either in-person or via webinar.

These bills may not have passed had it not been for funds in the IIAPAC. If you haven't contributed yet this year, please consider doing so.
